Text Any textual data included in the document Kinderplezier Het Groot Vermaak der Kinderen bestaat uit drie rijen van telkens vier prenten. In totaal zijn er dus twaalf tekeningen. Elke prent beschrijft een manier waarop kinderen zich in de negentiende eeuw in hun vrije tijd bezig hielden. Bovenaan staat de titel zowel in het Nederlands als in het Frans. Ook heeft elke prent telkens een kort onderschrift in beiden talen, en eveneens in rijmvorm. De prenten geven spelen weer die seizoensgebonden waren. Zo werd er tijdens de warme dagen duidelijk vaak gezwommen en tijdens de winter, wanneer de rivieren en meren dichtgevroren waren, vaak geschaatst. Enkele prenten zijn beschrijvingen van spelen die meerdere deelnemers vereisen, maar de meesten kunnen gerust individueel worden beoefend. Al blijft de nadruk duidelijk liggen op de samenhorigheid. Zo komt vliegeren aan bod. Een bezigheid die alleen kon worden uitgeoefend, maar die des te leuker in groep was. Opvallend is wel dat er in de twaalf prenten slechts uitzonderlijk meisjes te zien zijn. Dit beperkt zich voornamelijk tot de spelen in groep. Op een van de prenten wordt ‘blinden manneken’ afgebeeld. Dit is een variant op tikkertje, waarbij de tikker geblinddoekt wordt. Deze vorm van vermaak kennen we vandaag de dag nog. Het is een eenvoudig spel, dat op verschillende manieren gespeeld kan worden. De variaties zijn eindeloos, waarbij de basis hetzelfde blijft, maar het verhaal verandert. Wat deze prent ook aantoont, is de inkleuring aan de hand van sjablonen. De drie kleuren, rood, geel en blauw komen mooi naar voor. Het toont aan dat het inkleuren niet altijd even nauwkeurig was. In deze figuur zie je dat Ezelsvel, in haar eentje, eropuit trekt. Zoals er geschreven staat: “Zij doet het ezelsvel aan, verlaat haar huis, trekt heel wijd, heel wijd weg en gaat de schapen hoeden op het veld.” Wat ik bijzonder vind aan dit detail uit het geheel is dat dit de enige figuur is waarop Ezelsvel het enige personage betreft dat werd afgebeeld (als je haar schapen niet meetelt natuurlijk). De aanschouwer krijgt een goed zicht op het ezelsvel die ze draagt terwijl ze zittend onder een boom naar haar schapen kijkt. Door de inkleuring van haar jurk en de schapen, wordt de blik van de toeschouwer bijna automatisch naar de protagonist van dit verhaal getrokken.
