Text Any textual data included in the document BLAUWBAARD, EEN ALLEGORIE VOOR VROUWENEMANCIPATIE Wanneer je naar deze 19de -eeuwse volks- en kinderprent kijkt, herken je er mogelijk al snel een bekend verhaal in. Het gaat namelijk over het sprookje van Blauwbaard. De rijke man met zijn grote baard vraagt een jonge vrouw ten huwelijk en kort daarna trekt ze al bij hem in. Blauwbaard gaat daarna op reis en geeft de sleutels van een mysterieuze kamer aan zijn vrouw. De vrouw kan haar nieuwsgierigheid niet meer aan, opent de deur en wordt verrast door een kamer vol lijken. Bij zijn terugkomst komt Blauwbaard erachter dat de jonge vrouw in de kamer is geweest en dreigt haar te vermoorden. Gelukkig komen haar broers heldhaftig aangereden en vermoorden vervolgens Blauwbaard. Interessant is dat de prent beschrijvende tekstjes bevat die het verhaal vertellen in het Nederlands en in het Frans. Op die manier konden de ouders het sprookje makkelijk voorlezen aan de kinderen. Hoewel ik denk dat dit verhaal niet echt als kindvriendelijk wordt aanschouwd vandaag. Maar wat is nu de moraal van het verhaal? Wel, daar zijn verschillende opvattingen over. Sommige specialisten zien het als een verhaal over een seriemoordenaar. Anderen geloven juist dat de nieuwsgierigheid van de jonge vrouw haar leven in gevaar brengt. Volgens enkele folkloristen zoals Maria Tatar is het verhaal juist een allegorie voor de emancipatie van vrouwen. De jonge vrouw van Blauwbaard verzet zich tegen de patriarchale regels en doet zich niet voor als de gehoorzame en onderdanige vrouw. Dit staat volgens de folkloriste als symbool voor de vrouw die zich losmaakt van de maatschappij en gestraft wordt voor haar daden. Of dit moraal ook werd aangeleerd bij kinderen in de 19de eeuw kan niet met zekerheid gezegd worden. Debatten over vrouwenrechten zijn vandaag erg relevant in de sociale media en de maatschappij in het algemeen. Hierdoor is deze prent juist uiterst relevant voor onze tijd.
