Text Any textual data included in the document Deze prent toont twintig verschillende beroepen in hun werkateliers. De afbeeldingen geven een indruk van de verschillende werkateliers en tonen hoe het werk verdeeld werd. De prent lijkt kinderen iets te willen bijbrengen over de verschillende, traditionele ambachten. Mogelijks merkte men het effect van industrialisatie op bepaalde productieprocessen op en wou men deze vastleggen. Tegelijkertijd zorgden de verzen voor enige ontspanning. We zien onder andere de koperslager (tweede rij, derde kolom) ijverig aan het werk met zijn hamer terwijl een leerjongen een vuur lijkt aan te houden. Bij de papiermakers (eerste rij, eerste kolom) zien we drie arbeidsrollen: één persoon schept het papier uit de lompenbak, een ander perst het papier samen om het te ontdoen van overtollig water terwijl een derde het papier te drogen hangt. Bij de graveurs (eerste rij, tweede kolom) zien we dat zonlicht belangrijk was voor hun activiteiten. Daarnaast tonen de afbeeldingen de voornaamste werkatributen van de verschillende stielen. Bij de apotheker (tweede rij, eerste kolom) zien we aan de verkoopstoog een weegschaal en een zaagvis. De graveur draagt een bril terwijl voor de glablazers (vierde rij, eerste kolom) hun blaaspijp onmisbaar is. Onder de afbeeldingen zijn telkens rijmende verzen in het Nederlands en in het Frans gedrukt. Om de twee regels telkens op elkaar te doen rijmen is er soms gekozen voor vreemde zinsconstructies. De speelse verzen geven ons soms meer informatie over de beroepen zoals de onaangename geuren in het atelier van de huidenvetters (derde rij, vierde kolom) maar zijn doorgaans luchtige toevoegingen. Text Any textual data included in the document Deze kinderprent, getiteld Opdragt aan de jonge en leerzame Jeugd, had een educatief en entertainend doel en vertelt 16 lessen aan de hand van ingekleurde prenten. Op elke prent wordt een morele les afgebeeld met telkens een beschrijvend onderschrift. De meeste prenten gaan over huishoudelijke taken en andere onderwerpen zoals bijvoorbeeld op tijd komen, elkaar helpen en netheid. Het onderschrift bevat dan de morele les die de afbeelding begeleidt, in de vorm van een rijmpje met telkens een rekensom (vermenigvuldiging of optelsom) verwerkt in de tekst. De onderste rij bijschriften bevatten een beschrijving van de Romeinse cijfers en hoe ze te gebruiken. De 16 prentjes en hun onderschriften waren dus gericht aan jongeren die leefden tijdens het einde van de 19de eeuw en hadden als doel om hun wat bij te leren over de waarden en normen van de samenleving. Als je deze prent in een hedendaagse context zou plaatsen, is het duidelijk dat er sterke verschillen zijn met de waarden en normen van de gemiddelde Belg de dag van vandaag. Zo zijn er stereotypes op vlak van gender, bijvoorbeeld de huishoudelijke taken die voorbehouden zijn voor meisjes. Tegelijk zijn er echter gelijkenissen met morele lessen die wel tot op vandaag nog steeds worden doorgegeven aan Vlaamse jongeren.
