Het Franse leger onder leiding van Napoleon Bonaparte werd definitief verslagen in 1815 door de zevende coalitie. op de prent van Brepols wordt een ander verhaal verteld afhankelijk van de taal. In het Nederlands wordt de veldslag omschreven als een Nederlandse overwinning, terwijl in de Franstalige tekst het als een overwinning voor België wordt gekaderd. Dit verschil wordt benadrukt in de eerste lijnen van de bijhorende tekst . Bovenaan staat in het Nederlands: “Zoo medt ons Nederlandsh Historie, Geen Volk! Dat zoo veel roem en glorie.” Het Franstalig deel luidt echter als volgt: “Des fastes de la Belgique qui ne connait l’éclat! Toujours on fait de lui le bon et vrai soldat.” De “Slag van Waterloo/Bataille de Waterloo” werd zowel verkocht in Nederland als in België . Uit de tekst blijkt dat de Franstalige versie van de eerder prent gericht was op het Belgische publiek, terwijl de Nederlandse versie voor het Nederlandse publiek bedoeld was. In de context na de Belgische onafhankelijkheid van 1830 blijkt dat dat er bij beide bevolkingen een nationalistisch gevoel leefde. Dit is opmerkelijk aangezien dat deze prenten voor kinderen bestemd waren. Het is belangrijk om op te merken dat ouders deze prenten voor hun kinderen kochten. Het is aannemelijk dat zij eerder geneigd waren om een prent te kopen die hun vaderland verheerlijkte. Brepols probeerde dusdanig zoveel mogelijk prenten te verkopen, wat mogelijks het verschil tussen de twee teksten verklaart.
